How Much Does a 15 Amp Power Point Cost to Install in Perth? (2026 Prices)
Quick answer: in Perth in 2026 a 15 amp power point costs $250 to $400 installed on a new dedicated circuit when the switchboard is close, and $400 to $600 for a long run, an outdoor weatherproof point for a caravan, or a point in a shed or garage on the far side of the house. If the switchboard is full or still has fuses, add an RCBO or a board upgrade.

The 15 amp point is the one with the wider earth pin, and it's what caravans, portable EV chargers, some welders and compressors, big window air conditioners and heavy workshop gear need. The catch people find out on the phone is that you can't just swap a 10 A point for a 15 A one: a 15 A outlet needs its own circuit with the right protection, so the price is really the price of a short new circuit. Here's what that costs in Perth in 2026, what's done, and when a 15 A point is the right answer versus a 32 A socket or a proper EV charger.

15 amp power point costs in Perth in 2026
| Job | Typical Perth price (2026) | Notes |
|---|---|---|
| 15 A point on a new dedicated circuit, short run | $250 – $400 | Garage or wall near the switchboard; 2.5 mm² cable and its own RCBO |
| 15 A point, long run through the roof space | $350 – $500 | Far side of the house, workshop end of the garage |
| Outdoor weatherproof 15 A point (caravan, boat, pool equipment) | $300 – $500 | IP-rated enclosure with a lid, sealed cable entry |
| 15 A point in a detached shed or carport (underground run) | $550 – $1,300 | Trenching and conduit; often paired with shed lights and power |
| Extra 15 A point on the same circuit and visit | +$120 – $200 | Where the circuit's load allows |
| Add: RCBO on a full board | +$150 – $350 | Small extension enclosure if there's no spare way |
| Compare: 32 A socket for a welder or big compressor | $500 – $800 | See our 32 amp socket guide |
| Compare: 7 kW EV charger | $1,500 – $2,500 | See our EV charger cost guide |

The outlet itself is $20–$60 and the RCBO $60–$110 at trade; the rest is running the circuit properly and testing it. A 15 A point on the existing power circuit — which is what a handyman does — is illegal and trips or overheats the moment the load goes on.
When you need a 15 amp point (and when you don't)
- Caravans and camper trailers. The van's lead is a 15 A plug. An outdoor 15 A point on the driveway side of the house means the fridge runs before the trip and the batteries charge after it. Don't use a 10-to-15 A adapter without an RCD and overload protection — the cheap ones overheat.
- Portable EV charging. The charger that comes with the car will run on a 15 A point at about 3.6 kW — roughly 20 km of range an hour. Enough for a plug-in hybrid or a short commute; for a full EV, a 7 kW wall charger is the better spend.
- Workshops. Small welders, compressors, table saws and dust extractors that ship with a 15 A plug. Anything bigger needs a 32 A socket.
- Window and portable air conditioners over about 2.4 kW, some spa pumps, and commercial kitchen equipment.
- Not for: a standard appliance that happens to trip the circuit — that's a fault or an overloaded circuit, not a reason for a 15 A point.

What's actually done on the day
- Check the switchboard. A spare way for a new RCBO, RCD protection, and whether the board can take the load.
- Run the circuit. 2.5 mm² cable from the board to the point, through the roof space or in conduit, underground where it's going to a shed.
- Fit the outlet. A 15 A socket (the wide earth pin) at a sensible height; outdoors, an IP-rated enclosure with a lid.
- Protect it. An RCBO at the board sized for the circuit — it needs its own overload and earth-leakage protection.
- Test and certify. Polarity, earth continuity, insulation resistance and RCD trip time; your Electrical Safety Certificate follows.
A short run takes about an hour and a half; a long or outdoor run two to three hours.
The WA rules that apply
- Licensed contractor only. Fitting a 15 A outlet is electrical work for a licensed electrical contractor (our licence is EC15449).
- Its own circuit and protection. A 15 A outlet needs a circuit sized and protected for 15 A loads, with RCD protection under AS/NZS 3000:2018 — in practice a dedicated circuit, not a swap on the existing power circuit.
- Outdoor points need IP-rated enclosures, and pool or spa points must respect the zone rules.
- Caravan connections — the van side is covered by AS/NZS 3001; the house side is the 15 A point with RCD protection.
- Electrical Safety Certificate for the work, within 28 days.
What pushes the price up (or down)
- Distance from the switchboard. The whole job is a cable run; short is cheap.
- Underground runs to sheds and carports.
- Outdoor enclosures and sealed entries.
- The switchboard. A spare way costs nothing extra; no spare way needs an extension; a fuse board needs upgrading.
- Number of points. A second 15 A point on the same visit is much cheaper.
How Web X quotes a 15 amp point

We install 15 A points across the Perth metro — Baldivis, Byford, Ellenbrook, Wanneroo, Canning Vale, Rockingham and everywhere between.
Ways to keep the cost down
- Put the point near the board if the caravan or the workshop bench can live on that side.
- Combine it with other work — shed power, an outdoor light, an EV circuit — while the board is open.
- Ask whether you really need 15 A. For an EV, a 7 kW charger is a better long-term spend; for a welder, go straight to 32 A.
- Don't buy an adapter. A 10-to-15 A adapter without proper protection is dangerous and doesn't save you the circuit.
Frequently asked questions
How much does a 15 amp power point cost in Perth?
About $250–$400 installed on a new dedicated circuit near the switchboard, $350–$500 for a long run, and $550–$1,300 for a shed or carport that needs an underground run.
Can you change a 10 amp power point to 15 amp?
Not by swapping the outlet. A 15 A point needs a circuit sized and protected for 15 A loads, with RCD protection, and a home's existing power circuit is already shared by the 10 A points on it. So it's a new circuit — which is what the price above covers.
What's the difference between a 10 amp and a 15 amp power point?
The 15 A outlet has a wider earth pin so a 10 A plug fits it but a 15 A plug won't fit a 10 A outlet. It's rated for 3.6 kW instead of 2.4 kW and must be on its own protected circuit.
Can I charge my EV from a 15 amp power point?
Yes, with the portable charger that came with the car, at about 3.6 kW — roughly 20 km of range an hour. It suits plug-in hybrids and short commutes; a 7 kW wall charger is the better option for a full EV.
Do I need a 15 amp point for my caravan?
Yes — the van's lead has a 15 A plug. An outdoor weatherproof 15 A point on the driveway side of the house, RCD-protected, is the safe way to run the fridge and charge the batteries at home.
How long does it take to install?
About an hour and a half for a short run, two to three hours for a long or outdoor run. Sheds with an underground run are half a day.
Do I need a 32 amp socket instead?
For a welder over about 180 A output, a large compressor, a big spa or a workshop with several machines, yes. A 32 A socket is $500–$800 installed.
