How Much Does a New Electrical Circuit Cost in Perth? (2026 Prices)
Quick answer: in Perth in 2026 a new dedicated circuit — for an air conditioner, oven, cooktop, hot water unit, 15 A point or EV charger — costs $350 to $650 when the switchboard is close and has a spare way, $600 to $900 for a long run through the roof or a two-storey home, and $900 to $1,800 for an underground run to a shed, granny flat or carport with a small sub-board. A full board or an old fuse board adds an RCBO extension or a switchboard upgrade.

"Do I need a new circuit?" is the question behind half the jobs we quote — the new induction cooktop, the split system, the caravan point, the spa. The answer depends on the appliance's rating and what's already on the board, and the price depends almost entirely on how far the cable has to travel. This guide covers what a new circuit costs in Perth in 2026, when you need one, what's done on the day and the rules that apply.

New circuit costs in Perth in 2026
| Job | Typical Perth price (2026) | Notes |
|---|---|---|
| Dedicated 10–20 A circuit, short run | $350 – $550 | Fridge, dishwasher, bathroom heater, a run of new power points |
| Dedicated 20 A circuit for an oven, hot water unit or small aircon | $350 – $650 | 4 mm² cable, 20 A RCBO, isolator where required |
| Dedicated 32 A circuit for induction, a big split system or an EV charger | $450 – $750 | 6 mm² cable, 32 A RCBO — see our EV charger and cooktop guides |
| Long run — far side of the house or two-storey | $600 – $900 | Roof space, cavities, conduit where exposed |
| Underground run to a shed, carport or granny flat | $900 – $1,800 | Trench, conduit, weatherproof terminations — see our shed power guide |
| Sub-board at the far end (several circuits) | +$400 – $900 | Small enclosure with a main switch and RCBOs |
| Three-phase circuit | $600 – $1,200 | Where the home already has three-phase supply |
| Add: RCBO on a full board | +$150 – $350 | Small extension enclosure if there's no spare way |

When you need a new circuit
- The appliance says so. Induction cooktops, ovens over about 3.5 kW, split systems, electric hot water, spas, EV chargers, welders and 15 A or 32 A outlets all specify a dedicated circuit in their installation sheet, and the Wiring Rules hold the electrician to it.
- The existing circuit is full. A kitchen power circuit that trips when the kettle, toaster and microwave run together isn't faulty — it's overloaded. The fix is a second circuit, not a bigger breaker.
- The area has no power. A shed, a carport, a granny flat, a pool pump, a new alfresco.
- A renovation adds load. A new kitchen or bathroom usually adds two or three circuits.
- You don't need one for: a single extra power point in a bedroom, a new light in the hallway or a ceiling fan — those extend an existing circuit with capacity.

What's actually done on the day
- Check the switchboard. Spare ways, RCD protection, the main switch rating and the home's maximum demand — a 32 A circuit on a house already near its supply limit needs a conversation, not a breaker.
- Plan the route. Through the roof space and down a cavity; in conduit on walls; in a trench with orange conduit underground.
- Run the cable sized for the load and the length — 2.5 mm² for a 20 A power circuit, 4 mm² for an oven or hot water, 6 mm² for 32 A, larger for long runs so the voltage drop stays within limits.
- Terminate at the appliance, isolator or outlet, and at the board on a new RCBO.
- Test and certify. Insulation resistance, polarity, earth continuity, RCD trip time; labelled at the board; your Electrical Safety Certificate follows.
A short run takes about an hour and a half; a long run two to three hours; a shed with trenching most of a day.
The WA rules that apply
- Licensed contractor only. A new circuit is electrical work for a licensed electrical contractor (our licence is EC15449).
- RCD protection on every new circuit under AS/NZS 3000:2018 — including hard-wired appliances such as ovens, hot water units and air conditioners.
- Cable sized for load and length so voltage drop and protection are within the Wiring Rules.
- Underground cable in conduit at the required depth, with mechanical protection and marker tape where required.
- Maximum demand. Western Power's standard connection is 63 A single-phase; large new loads have to fit, or be managed, or the connection upgraded.
- Electrical Safety Certificate for the work, within 28 days.
What pushes the price up (or down)
- Distance. The single biggest variable — cable, conduit and time.
- Route. Roof spaces and cavities are quick; solid walls, concrete slabs and two-storey homes aren't.
- Underground. Trenching through lawn is one thing; through paving or concrete is another.
- Circuit size. 32 A and three-phase circuits use heavier cable and gear.
- The board. Spare way, extension or upgrade.
- The end. A plain point, an isolator, a weatherproof outlet or a sub-board.
- Bundling. Two circuits on the same visit share the board work and the roof time.
How Web X quotes a new circuit
Send a photo of the open switchboard, one of where the circuit is going, and tell us what it's for — the appliance model if you have it. That's usually enough for a fixed price the same day.
- Fixed price before we start, $0 call-out fee.
- Most circuits done in a single visit within the week.
- Cable sized properly, RCBO at the board, tested and certified.
- Licensed electrical contractor EC15449, 300+ five-star Google reviews. See our power point installation and underground cabling pages.
We run new circuits across the Perth metro — Ellenbrook, Byford, Baldivis, Wanneroo, Kalamunda, Canning Vale and everywhere between.
Ways to keep the cost down
- Run two circuits at once — the aircon and the EV charger, the oven and the cooktop.
- Choose the short route. An appliance on the meter-box side of the house is the cheap case.
- Trench with other work — paving, reticulation or a new fence is the time to lay conduit.
- Upgrade the board once if it's old, rather than paying for extensions circuit by circuit.
- Send the appliance model first so the circuit is sized right the first time.
Frequently asked questions
How much does it cost to install a new electrical circuit in Perth?
About $350–$650 for a dedicated circuit near the switchboard, $600–$900 for a long run or a two-storey home, and $900–$1,800 for an underground run to a shed or granny flat with a small sub-board.
Do I need a dedicated circuit for my air conditioner, oven or cooktop?
Nearly always. Split systems, ovens over about 3.5 kW, induction cooktops, hot water units, spas and EV chargers specify a dedicated circuit in their installation sheets, and the Wiring Rules require the circuit to match.
How long does it take?
About an hour and a half for a short run, two to three hours for a long run, and most of a day for a shed with trenching.
Can a new circuit be added to my switchboard?
If it has a spare way and RCD protection, yes, straight away. A full board gets a small extension for the new RCBO; a ceramic-fuse board needs upgrading before any new circuit can be added.
Why does my kitchen circuit keep tripping?
Usually overload — kettle, toaster and microwave on one 20 A circuit. The fix is a second circuit ($350–$550), never a bigger breaker.
What size cable is used?
2.5 mm² for a 20 A power circuit, 4 mm² for ovens and hot water, 6 mm² for 32 A loads like induction cooktops and EV chargers, and larger for long runs so the voltage drop stays within the rules.
Can you run power underground to a shed?
Yes — conduit in a trench at the required depth, a weatherproof termination or a sub-board at the shed, RCD-protected. $900–$1,800 for most Perth blocks; trenching through paving or concrete is extra.
